Donald Trump fires senior State Dept official for making twisted statement on Tillerson Firing
According to reports, Trump fired a state department official for contradicting the White House account of Trump’s firing of Tillerson.
Associated Press reported the firing of Under Secretary of State Steve Goldstein,
While speaking to reporters Goldstein said Tillerson did not speak with Trump before his firing and is “unaware” of the reason behind his dismissal. This statement promoted The White House to fire Goldstein.
Goldstein suggested that Tillerson found out about his firing from Twitter. But it differs from the published accounts of the decision that cited White House officials. Goldstein also said Tillerson had “every intention of staying” before his firing.
In the White House official’s version, White House chief of staff John Kelly told Tillerson on Friday that Trump would fire him. But Tillerson aide did not mention this to the press while making statement
Donald Trump on twitter claimed he made the decision to fire Tillerson by himself and Tillerson would be “much happier now”
President Trump and Tillerson had repeatedly clashed, most famously after reports that the secretary of State referred to Trump in private as a “moron.” Later Trump invited him for an IQ Test.
